Shift Mechanical Fitter


Location: Barnsley (Yorkshire)
Salary: 40,000 per annum + benefits

A leading manufacturer in the Yorkshire area is seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Shift Mechanical Fitter to join their team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work in a busy production environment, maintaining and improving equipment to meet growing demands.



Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out reactive mechanical maintenance, diagnosing and resolving machinery breakdowns.
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production machinery.
  • Work with advanced manufacturing equipment, including programmable logic-controlled (PLC) systems.
  • Maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Occasionally fabricate and weld machinery parts or manufacture replacements.
  • Rebuild and repair spare parts in the mechanical workshop.
  • Ensure machinery operation continuity by covering for team members during holidays.
  • Manage spares, tools, and stock using the booking-out system.
  • Collaborate with production and engineering colleagues to maintain smooth operations.
  • Participate in annual shutdowns for extensive maintenance and repair work.


Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • NVQ Level 3 in an engineering-approved apprenticeship.
  • Proven experience in a mechanical maintenance role.

Desirable:

  • City & Guilds certificate in engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • BTEC in operations and maintenance engineering.
  • Additional qualifications in:
    • Milling and turning
    • Mechanical engineering
    • Production engineering
    • Fabrication and welding
