Purpose of role
To work as part of a team throughout Barnsley delivering waste services and responding to community priorities ensuring that the household waste collection service is completed with the daily task.
Duties
- Supervise waste crews and manage their day to day operational functions (via paper records or electronic hand held devices) including all Health & Safety relating to the daily tasks
- Undertake operational duties which will involve a wide range of physically and mentally demanding tasks in all weathers
- Ensure the completion of all daily tasks while ensuring the safety of employees, colleagues, and members of the public including children; you will be responsible for the safe collection of bins along your route
- Understand the operation of mechanical machinery to facilitate emptying of refuse containers
- Be responsible for the careful day to day use, cleanliness, maintenance, security of vehicles/plant, machinery, and equipment provided
- Be customer focussed and deal with exchanges of information in a polite, courteous and positive manner responding to minor requests for service delivery and where necessary report problems to a supervisor or manager
- Demonstrate safe working practices, give advice and train other employees, apprentices, trainees and students where required
- Be responsible for the Health and Safety of all employees under your direct supervision
- Hold a valid UK driving licence to Category C1 standard A/E/I E
- Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) A/E/I E
- To hold or a willingness to undertake Manual Handling A/I E
- To hold or a willingness to undertake Needle Stick A/I E
- To hold or a willingness to undertake IOSH Working Safely A/I
