We are assisting a Local Authority in the appointment of an experienced Youth Justice Practitioner to join their Youth Justice Services Team in Barnsley!

As a Youth Justice Practitioner you will be expected to take lead responsibility for the supervision and case management of children, young people and their families who are subject to preventative interventions, out of court disposals or community orders to ensure that all appropriate measures are taken to protect them from harm, and that they do not cause harm to others.

You will be responsible for the following:

  • To ensure that children and young people are effectively assessed, planned for, engaged with and suitably reviewed in a manner that enhances the likelihood of their behaviour changing.
  • Provide written reports to Referral Order panels, Youth and Crown Courts, Child Protection conferences and other formal forums that are of a high standard and effectively convey the views of the Youth Justice Service.
  • Ensure that children, young people and their parents complete the sentences to which they are subject and that their orders are effectively enforced and managed in line with National Standards at all times.
  • Act as an appropriate role model for children and young people at all times.
  • Work with other agencies to develop, negotiate, broker and oversee packages of support, intervention and challenge to children, young people and their families.

To be a successful candidate for this role you MUST have the following:

  • Experience of working with children, young people or adults who are involved in the criminal justice system or other statutory service provision, e.g. social work with children or families.
  • Experience of working within a court.
