Surveyor needed in Barnsley, £17.12ph PAYE - Reference: 0009 5754 / 1

  • We are looking for surveyors ideally with a relevant qualification in Real Estate and/or MRICS status, ideally with some experience of working in Local Authority/public sector. We require support across the board in the Estates team, which we have been broadly split into 3 work areas; acquisitions and disposals, commercial property management and valuation. Potential candidates would ideally have some previous experience of one or all of the areas but must have an aptitude to work independently and take a lead with their allocated workload with appropriate supervision.
  • To support and assist the Team Leaders and Senior Surveyors in delivering the 5 year-disposal programme of surplus assets. This will include assisting with the sale of development sites from initial site preparation/feasibility, development/planning knowledge, valuation appraisals, marketing, negotiation, contract terms/agreements, through to completion. The candidate will also be expected to have excellent communication skills.
  • In addition the Client have a programme of targeted property acquisitions that support a series of highway schemes and regeneration projects located throughout the borough. The candidate may be required to provide assistance in dealing with land and property acquisitions and will be required to have good negotiation skills.
  • To support and assist Team Leaders and Senior Surveyors in all aspects of dealing with letting and managing a commercial property portfolio, which includes town centre retail/shopping centres, out of town high street retail, heritage/culture assets, industrial estates, business centres, administrative buildings, community properties and leased land assets.

The workload will include:

  • Tenant (or landlord) liaison and dealing with tenant enquiries and disputes.
  • Landlord and Tenant matters
  • Debt management
  • Dealing with tenant requests for alterations, assignment etc
  • New lettings and lease renewals including valuation for rents.
  • Service charge management
  • In addition to providing support across the commercial portfolio, we are particularly looking for someone to assist in the management of the Council's industrial estates, to include day to day management, debt recovery and lettings and to undertaking a full review of the portfolio along with strategic recommendations in terms of future opportunities and risks.
  • To undertake residential valuations (Right to Buy) and/or local authority property asset valuations for financial accounting. 

This is a full time role on a temporary contract basis.
