We are seeking a dedicated Vehicle Technician to join the team at a local authority in Barnsley. This role is crucial for maintaining the efficiency and safety of the Council's Refuse Collection fleet, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing high-quality service to the community.
Day-to-day of the role:- Inspection and Maintenance: Inspect, repair, and maintain municipal fleet assets to meet statutory and regulatory standards.
- Professional Advice: Provide guidance on vehicle maintenance and repair to service users.
- Manual Work: Perform physically demanding tasks related to fleet maintenance.
- Health & Safety: Ensure the safety of all resources within the area of responsibility.
- Policy Awareness: Stay informed about policies and procedures impacting service delivery.
- Diagnostics: Use complex diagnostic equipment to prepare and present detailed results.
- Service Improvement: Continuously review and improve service provision.
- Policy Development: Contribute to the development of policies.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including senior managers and the public.
- Additional Duties: Perform other duties as requested by management.
- Education: Level 3 Motor Vehicle Qualification (essential).
- Licence Training: Willingness to undertake and achieve Category C Licence within 12 months.
- Experience: Proven experience in inspection and audit processes, municipal fleet maintenance, general fabrication, or use of complex diagnostic equipment.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Health and Safety procedures involved in fleet maintenance.
- Awareness of current transport-related issues.
- Proficient in Microsoft applications.
- Understanding of pressures facing local government.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of dealing effectively with various stakeholders.
- Ability to manage a challenging workload under pressure and solve problems effectively.
- Team player with the ability to work independently in high-pressure situations.
