Accounts Manager - Barnstaple - £45,000-£50,000 + Progression Opportunities

Are you an experienced Accounts Manager with a passion for leading teams and delivering outstanding client service? Our client, a well-established and highly regarded accountancy practice, is looking for a skilled professional to oversee a client portfolio and manage a growing team in their Barnstaple office.

With a strong focus on professional development, teamwork, and client relationships, this role offers a clear path for quick career progression within a supportive and dynamic environment.

The Role

As an Accounts Manager, you will be responsible for supervising team members, overseeing client portfolios, and ensuring a high standard of service delivery. You will act as the primary point of contact for clients while also mentoring and developing junior staff.

Key Responsibilities

- Supervise and manage team members, ensuring efficient workflow

- Oversee a portfolio of clients, ensuring compliance with tax and accounting regulations

- Act as the first point of contact for client queries and business advice

- Prepare and review financial statements for limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders

- Prepare and review corporate and personal tax computations and returns

- Review VAT return preparation and filings with HMRC and Companies House

- Provide business set-up support, including incorporations and HMRC registrations

- Offer strategic business advice to help clients minimise tax liabilities and maximise profitability

- Identify opportunities to provide additional services to clients

- Support Partners with specialist assignments and provide technical guidance

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

- At least 5 years' experience managing a team within an accountancy practice

- Strong background in accounts preparation and tax compliance for a variety of business structures

- AAT, ACA, or ACCA qualification (or equivalent experience)

- Excellent leadership skills with a focus on mentoring and developing staff

- A proactive, adaptable, and detail-oriented approach

- Strong IT skills, including Word, Excel, and accounting software

- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
