SEA have a great opportunity for a Skilled Assembly Technician to join our growing team in Barnstaple. Our world leading engineers work in maritime communications that protect our armed forces and smart city technology, creating cleaner, safer cities.
For this role you will need to be experienced in electro-mechanical assembly and be able to read, understand and follow wiring diagrams and technical drawings to create full assemblies. As a Skilled Assembly Technician you could be working on torpedo launching components one day, then part of an automatic number plate recognition camera the next.
At SEA you wont have to work shifts or weekends, just a 37.5 hour week with occasional overtime, flexi time, flexi leave and you get to finish at 12:30 on Friday!

What youll be doing
Working in a multi-skilled production team you will be responsible for providing assembly and machining support to Production and Engineering teams. Working closely with the Wiring Technicians, Test Technicians and Engineers to make sure our products are delivered to customers on time and with the highest quality standards. Day to day tasks include things like:
  • Skilled in Mechanical and Electrical assembly work
  • Machining support to Production and Engineering Departments, experience in operating lathes, milling machines, drill presses, precision grinders etc would be an advantage.
  • Training support for company apprentices to gain experience with machine tools, developing the individuals skills, promoting shop H&S and instilling good housekeeping culture.
The skills you need
  • Someone who has previous experience working within a skilled assembly technician, mechanical assembly, electro-mechanical role.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, wiring diagrams, assembly instruction guides, and electronic schematics.
  • You will be able to follow these instructions to create a full assembly using a mix of electrical and mechanical assembly skills.
  • Experience in hand soldering; polymer moulding processes; component handling and identification; wire size and type identification would be useful.
  • Competency in the use of measurement equipment e.g., volt meters, continuity testers, force gauges, micrometers, verniers and oscilloscopes.
  • Ideally you will have completed a relevant engineering or technical apprenticeship, have an NVQ Level 3 or have significant experience in a relevant role.
