Role: SEN Teaching Assistant

Location: Barnstaple

Salary: Starting at £90 per day (depending on experience and qualifications)

Long-Term Teachers have an incredible opportunity to work at a welcoming, inclusive and supportive special school situated in Barnstaple. Providing high quality education and support to students aged 3 - 19, our school is seeking to appoint dedicated teaching assistants to work across the school, dependent on the need.

The students you will be supporting have profound or severe learning difficulties and may be on the autistic spectrum. Everything they do is centered around the students, providing individualised and well structured pathways to ensure all students thrive. You will be part of an incredible cohesive community that extends beyond the boundaries of the school site.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Classroom support: Provide general classroom support, including one-to-one assistance and small group interventions as needed.

  • Lesson preparation: Assist the teacher with lesson planning, resource gathering and activity set up.

  • Safeguarding: Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, promoting a secure and supportive environment.

  • Behaviour management: Effectively manage student behaviour and address the individual needs in accordance with with their EHCP’s

  • Curriculum access: Support students in accessing the curriculum, helping them to overcome barriers to learning

About You:

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children in the UK, whether in early years, primary or secondary education.

  • SEN knowledge: A strong understanding of special educational needs and strategies to support young people

  • Personal qualities: Resilient, adaptable, hardworking and possess a good sense of humour.

  • Professional growth: A willingness to develop your knowledge and skills further.

  • Flexibility: Ability to adapt to changing plans at short notice

This role is perfect for university students, experienced TA’s looking for a new challenge or anyone wanting to work around their current schedule.
