About the Role:

We are seeking 2 skilled Principal Engineer specializing in Commissioning for a 12-month contract position at our Barrow-in-Furness facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, installing, and testing hardware to develop a plant simulation system. This system will be instrumental in testing on-board control systems prior to their deployment onto the platform. The role emphasizes electrical installation, testing, and commissioning of control systems and associated test harnesses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop hardware design solutions that meet project milestones in terms of time, cost, and quality.

  • Manage requirements and acceptance criteria specific to systems or products, ensuring integration across platforms or programs.

  • Produce necessary documentation to support the design review process, including technical specifications, diagrams, calculations, and design justifications.

  • Install systems in accordance with design documentation, ensuring all work adheres to safety protocols and relevant standards.

  • Commission and set to work all installed test harnesses to verify correct and safe installation.

  • Ensure compliance with contractual requirements and that all work aligns with company, safety, environmental, and local business processes and standards.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Proven experience in electronic, electrical, hardware, or software engineering, particularly within C&I disciplines.

  • Strong understanding of complex system design and engineering principles.

  • In-depth knowledge of the engineering lifecycle and its processes.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across multiple disciplines, teams, and suppliers.

  • Understanding of cross-engineering disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, and software engineering.

  • Ability to produce and interpret technical documentation and create structured reports and presentations.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with Siemens control systems.

  • Background in industries such as Defence, Automation, or Factory settings.

  • Familiarity with electrical safe work practices.

Working Hours:

The role operates on core hours with flexibility, amounting to 4 days per week.
