- City & Guilds Parts 1&2 Electrical Installation,
BS 7671
- 16th Edition IEE Wiring Regs or above
- AM1 Practical Exam (Minimum)
- HEA/HERS registered
- Valid Driving Licence
- Extensive ability to take measurements and
calculate quantities e.g. areas, volumes and
weights
- Problem identification and solving
- Use of information technology (eg personal
computer, PDS, mobile phones etc) in a work-

Staff of the County Council and District Councils, the public (when required by the Client), Government Departments, Statutory Undertakers, Consultants, developers, outside bodies who (act as clients or) provide goods, services and information.
Job Purpose
To maintain, renew and install Street Lighting installations, Traffic Signs, Traffic Signals and all associated electrical work in a safe, efficient and economic manner employing such skills and knowledge as may be required with due regard to current legislation.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1.
Test street lighting, traffic signs and building installations to diagnose faults.
2.
Undertake and supervise maintenance to enable Leicestershire Highways to meet its contractual obligations to retain 99.5% of apparatus operational.
3.
Test, observe and recognise electrical or structural defects with apparatus or electrical distribution systems and report orally and/or in writing on impending failure.
4.
To undertake and supervise electrical works to lighting and sign installations at ground or high level to fulfil the requirements of individual contracts.
5.
Electrical installation work in buildings such as depots, civic amenity sites, hospitals, schools and other Council properties other than Street Lighting, to IEE Regulations.
6.
Erection and removal of signs and lighting columns as required.
Service, adjust and repair electrical installations or components using the necessary equipment and tools in a proper and safe manner.
7.
Service, adjust and repair apparatus, tools and equipment, recognising the need for specialist services (as required)
8.
Interpret and implement technical instruction data, and manufacturers' modifications as instructed.
Manufacture and recondition, as authorised and within the limitations of machinery and equipment available, component parts.
Assess; record and/or cost repair (as appropriate).

Maintain personal tool kit, special tools and equipment in good, safe, secure condition.

To make decisions regarding the organisation of work and materials required for the daily workload for the team in order to maintain efficient continuity of work. Requisition replacement parts/materials from Stores.
Keep accurate account of work carried out and time taken on each job and complete, as necessary, time sheets, work sheets, stores issue notes, accident occurrence forms etc.

Work with and impart skilled job knowledge to Apprentices and provide verbal reports on progress.
Participate in and attend training courses, as required, in house or off job.
Ensure that all work done is in accordance with prescribed quality standards.

Drive, manoeuvre and maintain a specialist hydraulic platform vehicle to carry out maintenance and installation works at various locations. Also operating plant including air compressors, saws and vibrating plant tools as required.

Observe the necessary Health & Safety precautions when carrying out the above duties and compliance with all safety policies and procedures as laid down by the Department and County Council with particular regard to:
i) Site safety, employees and the general public.
ii) Safe working methods,
iii) Provision and the use of appropriate protective clothing and equipment.
iv) The proper use and care of tools, plant and equipment.

Observe Departmental rules in relation to attendance, timekeeping and sickness scheme requirements.
Observe a flexible/harmonious working relationship with all other employees.

To comply with all Quality Management Systems, quality procedures and working practices.

Such other duties as required by the Assistant Director, Leicestershire Highways commensurate with the duties of the post.
Special Factors
The nature of the work may involve the jobholder carrying out work outside of normal working hours.
a) The post holder will be expected to work at weekends and nights in order to meet the contractual demands of the unit.
b) The post holder will be expected to make themselves available to attend emergencies and out of hours work.
c) The post holder will be expected to work on high speed roads. Additional safety measures and procedures shall be followed as required by the Authority.
d) The post holder should reside within a reasonable travelling distance of the depot.
e) The post holder will be required to attend, from time to time, conferences, seminars or other meetings as required by the Assistant Director.
f) Working hours will start and finish at site or at the Depot.
