About the business:

My client established in 2002 and it's now the largest privately owned print and packaging company in the UK having grown to over 900 employees operating out of multiple sites globally. The company prides itself on quality, efficiency, ethics and low environmental impact whilst being innovative and dynamic. The company has an opportunity for an operations Manager at the packaging division which is based at Barwell. On occasion you may also be asked to work out of a sister site in Leicester.



Purpose of an Operations Manager:

They are looking for an experienced and hands-on operations manager to drive our lined board business forward. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills and have a proven track record in managing teams and resources to optimise operational processes whilst driving efficiency. Knowledge of Health & Safety practices and BRC compliance will be required. The Operations Manager is responsible for the planning and management of the manufacturing process, whilst also overseeing the customer service, procurement, quality and despatch functions. An aptitude for IT will be required along with an openness for flexible working hours.

Day to day duties of an Operations Manager:

  • Adhere to and implement Health and Safety policies
  • Manage and develop all employees, including task allocation, absence, performance, grievances, and training.
  • Promote cross-departmental collaboration and foster a "One Team" culture.
  • Ensure efficient utilisation of resources
  • Manage the repair and routine maintenance of machinery
  • Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives to aid operational performance and improve profitability
  • Manage the production schedule
  • Implement quality control standards to ensure customer deliveries meet quality standards
  • Purchase materials, plan inventory, and oversee warehouse efficiency
  • Manage strategic supplier partnerships, ensuring their compliance with the company's needs and demands.
  • Provide technical support to customers and within the wider business as required
  • Support the Business Unit Director to delivery strategic projects
  • Ensure that BRC standards are maintained and assist with audits as required
  • Oversee the customer service department and assist CAD with the management of production tools

Requirements for an Operations Manager:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in production management
  • IT Proficient, including MS Office and some familiarity with ERP systems.
  • Full clean driving license
  • Excellent communication skills and direct people management experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Able to demonstrate analytical skills and financial acumen
  • Planning / Commercial / Supply Chain experience
  • Awareness and knowledge of Health and Safety and BRC Regulations
  • Experience of food packaging
  • Direct knowledge of carton-board
