We are seeking a dedicated Credit Controller to manage the sales ledger for our UK-based client. This role is integral to our client's finance team, ensuring efficient handling of accounts receivable and maintaining proactive customer communications.Location: Commutable from Pitsea, Thurrock, Southend-On-Sea and surrounding areas Fixed Term Contract: 9-12 months Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annumIndustry: Freight/Shipping
Day-to-day of the role:- Run Aged Debtors monthly for UK accounts and proactively chase all customers for outstanding balances overdue, sending statements and any required copy invoices.
- Distribute customer invoice queries to operational staff within the company electronically, monitor responses, and liaise with customers via email or online portals as needed.
- Handle daily receipts with queries for allocation promptly and chase up any missing remittances with customers.
- Set up new customers and suppliers in the system and take credit card payments using our online system.
- Present aging details monthly to management and conduct regular credit and Companies House checks.
- Maintain accurate notes on customer accounts and recommend escalation letters for old debts, sending them once approved by management.
- Advise management of customers who should go on hold as per our policy and proactively highlight issues as they arise.
- Ensure all customer details and email setups for invoices/statements are correct in the system.
- Provide ad hoc holiday cover for colleagues in the finance team.
- Assist with yearly audit reconciliations for external auditors regarding customer accounts.
- Experience with credit control processes handling a high volume of accounts.
- Strong understanding of accounts receivable processes and practices.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Proactive and motivated with strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Reliable and willing to learn new skills and adapt to changes.
- Proficiency in computer usage, especially Excel.
