Swift Specilist Recruitment Ltd are currently seeking a Customs Documentation Clerk to become an integral member of the team at one of our trusted clients based in Basildon. The successful applicant will be pivotal in managing and maintaining all documentation associated with our Customs operations. This position necessitates exceptional organisational skills, a keen attention to detail, and the capacity to collaborate effectively across various departments, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and internal policies.
Responsibilities
- Execute day-to-day Customs clearing and entries for all air, sea, and road freight shipments, including EADs & T1s.
- Create, manage, and uphold the appropriate documentation throughout each case’s progression.
- Ensure accuracy in data input and respond to customer inquiries in writing, in person, or by phone, providing precise advice and estimates as necessary.
- Communicate via telephone and/or in writing with external organizations such as HMRC, Port Authorities, Shipping Lines, and Hauliers.
- Acquire necessary Bills of Lading and accurate Tariff Headings. Secure payments from customers in alignment with company policy.
- Calculate Duty and VAT costs for each consignment.
- Process Import/Export declarations.
- Address general inquiries from importers/exporters and internal and external sources concerning Customs Procedures, Tariff Classifications, Duty Rates, and any other relevant documentation requirements.
- Stay informed of changes in regulations, laws, and customs procedures.
- Collaborate with various departments across multiple locations to prepare a comprehensive list of jobs (shipments requiring customs entries) for the day.
- The post holder will receive cross-training to provide coverage for other departments as needed.
Skills
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role.
- Proficient in HMRC customs declarations, encompassing both imports and exports.
- Demonstrated experience dealing with T1s, POA, EAD, and Transit documents.
- Exceptional attention to detail is critical to ensure business compliance and successful HMRC audits, including the identification and mitigation of potential risks.
- Outstanding communication skills to ensure all relevant departments within the company remain aligned regarding the customs declarations for daily shipments.
- Experience in checking and processing all pertinent documentation for shipments.
- Comprehensive understanding of various customs procedures and their requirements.
- Experience with Destin8, Descarte, and CNS Systems is preferable.
