Position Overview:
My client are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join our small team of engineers, working under the guidance of the Drawing Office Manager. The role will involve producing mechanical designs and drawings for our mechanical systems and equipment, contributing to the development and improvement of our products. The successful candidate will work in an industrial/design environment and have a systematic approach to their work with strong attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop mechanical designs and drawings for mechanical systems and equipment.
  • Collaborate with the mechanical design team to ensure designs meet customer specifications and industry standards.
  • Produce accurate 2D AutoCAD drawings and 3D models using Autodesk Inventor or other CAD software.
  • Apply drafting standards for BS 8888 and ensure all designs conform to these guidelines.
  • Interpret and maintain equipment assembly drawings, ensuring the high-quality finish required by customers.
  • Work closely with production teams to ensure designs are manufacturable and meet fabrication, machining, and assembly standards.
  • Adhere to industry-recognized engineering design standards and health and safety requirements.
  • Review and improve design processes to optimize quality, efficiency, and innovation.
  • Support the Drawing Office Manager and other team members in continuous improvement efforts.

Experience & Knowledge:
Essential:

  • Experience working in an industrial/design environment with Autodesk products, including AutoCAD (2D), Inventor (3D), and Autodesk Vault (User level). Other 3D CAD software knowledge, such as SolidWorks, may be considered.
  • Practical experience in drafting standards for BS 8888.
  • Mechanical design experience in an industrial design role, with a strong understanding of engineering techniques including machining, sheet metal work, and fabrication.
  • Recognized engineering certification or apprenticeship in a relevant discipline.
  • Ability to interpret equipment assembly drawings and deliver high-quality designs.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety standards in an engineering environment.
  • Ability to meet the requirements of industry-recognized engineering design standards.
