A well-established company based in Laindon, Essex, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its team. Operating from a purpose-built design, engineering, and headquarters facility, the company employs around 70 staff at this location.
The company specializes in the design and assembly of filling and packaging lines for aerosols, with a strong focus on the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Core equipment is sourced from leading manufacturers in Switzerland and integrated with custom-designed conveyors, enclosures, air handling systems, electrical control systems, and ancillary equipment.

- General mechanical design (sensor bracketry, equipment mounting, etc.)
About the Role
We are looking to appoint a Mechanical Design Engineer to produce mechanical designs and drawings for various systems and equipment. The successful candidate will work within a small team of mechanical design engineers under the supervision of the Drawing Office Manager.

Experience & Knowledge
Essential:
- Experience in an industrial/design environment using Autodesk products, including AutoCAD (2D), Inventor (3D), and Autodesk Vault (User level) (Other 3D CAD software, such as SolidWorks, may also be considered)
- Knowledge of BS 8888 drafting standards
- Mechanical design experience in an industrial design role
- Recognized engineering certification or apprenticeship
- Understanding of engineering techniques, including machining, sheet metal, and fabrication
- Ability to interpret assembly drawings and maintain high-quality output levels
- Awareness of health and safety regulations in an engineering environment
- Ability to adhere to industry-recognized engineering design standards
Desirable:
- Experience with automated production machinery or similar equipment
- Background in project-based environments working with cross-functional teams
- Knowledge of conveyor design
- Understanding of airflow, ductwork design, and calculations
- Familiarity with ATEX standards requirements
- Awareness of safety standards for equipment design
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate manufacturing drawings and equipment layouts, along with supporting mechanical documentation (schedules, bill of materials, sub-assembly drawings, schematics, etc.)
- Maintain and update existing mechanical drawings and documentation when equipment is modified or upgraded
- Act as a liaison between the Drawing Office, Mechanical Technicians, and sub-suppliers, ensuring the correct parts are ordered and supplied for assembly
- Work closely with the Drawing Office Manager to manage workload, ensure project deadlines are met, and communicate any deviations to the project team
- Ensure all mechanical drawings are updated throughout the project lifecycle and that correct revisions are maintained in the data-management system (Autodesk Vault)
- Assist with other tasks within the Drawing Office, such as enquiry drawings and site surveys, when required
