Senior Construction Manager | Basildon, Essex | up to £500pd. (outside IR35) | 6-month contract

The Opportunity:

The Railway, Civils and Infrastructure division at Ford & Stanley are proud to be working with an award-winning train operator, serving 26 stations in East London and South Essex who are one of the UK’s most punctual and popular train operators. Due to the needs of the projects, we are looking for an experienced construction manager to develop and manage the day-to-day implementation of work at a major station in Essex to support planned platform refurbishment until March 2025.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure construction activities are monitored, controlled, and managed and the works achieve safety, quality, time and cost (including tracking and forecasting of costs) requirements.
  • Review of designs and tender documentation as required which others have produced to ensure that it complies with the design intent and operational needs.
  • Produce, or assist in the production, of organisational works.
  • Author M&E work scopes as directed.
  • Manage on-site activities and reporting.
  • Raise work orders for approval where required.
  • Manage the technical assurance process RFI, TQs, DRNs etc
  • Undertake necessary reporting to the immediate project team PMO and Board to ensure the business is fully sighted on the project risks, issues, and opportunities.
  • Supervise minor works packages and report on progress.
  • Ensure compliance with the company's financial governance procedures.
  • Liaise with station management teams to ensure the impact on stations operations are minimised during the delivery of works.
  • Undertake site inspections/audits on safety, quality, and efficiency of site work (including out-of-hours and attendance during possessions).
  • Ensure the administrative aspects of the works align with the Asset Management System.
  • Ensure quality paperwork is compiled by contactor; review Entry into Service and Hand back documentation, H&S Files and O&M Manuals in conjunction with Asset Managers and Project Engineer


Candidate Essentials:

  • Experienced Construction Manager
  • Demonstrable rail project delivery experience
  • Experience working on both client and main contractor side
  • Previously signed off as a Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) in either civils or pway disciplines
  • Be able to commute to Basildon on a daily basis.
