Higher Level Teaching Assistant - Alternative Provision - Thurrock, Essex

The Head Teacher is seeking a Higher Level Teaching Assistant to join their committed team on a maternity cover contract, with the potential for a permanent role.

As an HLTA, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality learning support tailored to individual student needs. Working closely with the teaching staff and SENDCo, you will contribute to creating a positive and engaging environment for children to succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the delivery of lessons and interventions for students with SEND and SEMH needs in Years 1 to 3.
  • Leading small group sessions or one-to-one support to address specific learning and emotional needs.
  • Collaborating with teachers and specialists to implement Individual Education Plans.
  • Promoting emotional wellbeing, positive behaviour, and social skills development.
  • Assisting with planning and delivering creative and engaging activities that inspire and motivate students.
  • Monitoring and recording student progress and contributing to reports.
  • Providing pastoral support to ensure students feel valued, safe, and supported.

About You

You are a compassionate and motivated professional, eager to make a difference:

  • Proven experience working with SEND and SEMH students in a primary or alternative provision setting.
  • HLTA status or equivalent; additional qualifications in SEND or SEMH support are highly desirable.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and behaviour management skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and a creative approach to problem-solving.
  • A genuine passion for working with children who require additional support to achieve their full potential.
