Temporary Accommodation OfficerLocation: Basildon, Essex (Training in office for 2 weeks, then fully remote)Pay Rate: £22 - £25 per hour About the Role: We are seeking a dedicated Temporary Accommodation Officer to join our Temporary Accommodation Team within the Housing Choice service. This vital role focuses on managing the provision of temporary accommodation for homeless clients, ensuring appropriate placement, tenancy management, rent collection, and facilitating timely transitions to permanent housing solutions. Key Responsibilities:
  • Locate and inspect emergency accommodations, such as bed and breakfasts, ensuring compliance with safety standards and insurance requirements.
  • Negotiate cost-effective rates for temporary accommodations and secure properties at best value.
  • Manage the placement of homeless clients into interim accommodations and handle nominations for stage 2 temporary housing.
  • Conduct risk assessments for housing placements and ensure optimal use of available accommodation stock.
  • Oversee the closure of temporary accommodations, including serving Notice to Quits and minimizing financial exposure for the Council.
  • Prepare reports and investigate urgent management move requests, including those based on medical needs.
Skills and Experience Required:
  • Proven experience in public sector housing or a similar environment.
  • Familiarity with CIVICA and JIGSAW systems.
  • Experience in managing rent accounts and enforcement actions.
  • In-depth knowledge of homeless legislation, the Housing Act 1996, Landlord and Tenant Law, and Benefit regulations.
  • Strong understanding of available housing options and support services.
