We have a fantastic opportunity to join Sovereign Network Group in this new role as Senior Fixed Asset Accountant on a permanent basis. You'll be based from our head office in Basingstoke, combining office and home working to ensure a positive work/life balance.

What you'll be doing

Reporting into the Fixed Asset & Capital Accounting Manager, and working alongside our Fixed Asset Accountants, you'll lead the effective delivery of fixed asset processes to ensure timely and accurate monthly reporting, liaising with Finance Business Partners, Management Accountants and Budget Holders.

As a Senior Fixed Asset Accountant, you'll also provide input into SNG's capitalisation policy and support the ongoing transformation programme, working with business owners and finance business partners to ensure SNG remains compliant with changes to FRS102 and housing SORP requirements and industry best practices. Responsibilities include:

  • Accurate and timely recording of all fixed assets using the fixed asset and finance systems, complying with legislation and accounting policies including component accounting
  • Providing cost analysis in support of the calculation of depreciation, amortisation and surplus on disposals
  • Participating in the production of annual statutory accounts for all SNG companies, liaising with external auditors working to agreed project deadlines
  • Providing financial support on key business projects, including budget preparation, benchmarking and KPI data and process improvements for SNG
  • Being a subject matter expert in improving business processes, supporting correct coding of fixed asset spend, investment expenditure and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Facilitating the completion of all monthly balance sheet reconciliations coordinating with other members of the financial accounting team to ensure reconciliations are completed on time and documented effectively

What we need from you

You'll be a Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with demonstrable experience in a similar role within fixed assets. You'll have experience from within the Housing or Property sectors, or from within a large commercial organisation with a comprehensive fixed asset register. You'll also:

  • Have detailed knowledge of relevant legislation and accounting standards relating to fixed assets (e.g. Housing SORP, FRS102)
  • Have strong analytical skills, with experience drawing key financial insights
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders
  • Have strong stakeholder management skills
  • Be highly numerate with excellent attention to detail
  • Show strong prioritisation skills, working well to deadlines
  • Have strong IT skills, including MS Office
  • A good understanding of relevant legislation and accounting principles for Housing Associations is desirable but not essential

Any experience with Agresso /SUN general ledger, Asset 4000 fixed asset register or similar would be advantageous though training will be provided
