Assistant Accountant

Full-time, Permanent - Pay:  £32,000.00-£35,000.00 per annum

Main Purpose of the Job:

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the main purpose of the role is to support the overall day-to-day running of the Finance department, ensuring a seamless operation is executed.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Take ownership of all aspects of Purchase Ledger transactions using Merlin

· Setting up new suppliers.

· Posting supplier invoices

· Raising and making supplier payments through BACS

· Posting and reconciliation of staff expenses

· Vat reconciliation and quarterly submission

· Bank reconciliation

· Balance sheet reconciliation

· Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts

· Ability to interpret, challenge and analyse variances in the management accounts

· Posting accruals and prepayment journals

· Close monthly and yearly nominal ledgers

· Assist in preparation of annual budgets

· Collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to drive best practices and process efficiencies

· Promote and drive strong relationships with the purchasing team as well as the rest of the business

· Recommend operational improvements.

· Delivering accurate month-end reporting across 4 legal entities.

· Assist in month-end analysis and commentary,

· Maintain financial control ensuring compliance.

Person Specification:

· Experience in a similar role

· Strong attention to detail

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

· Evidence of building and maintaining strong relationships with key business stakeholders

· Proficient in Microsoft Office particularly Excel

· Experience of using Merlin or similar applications

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team

· Other Ad-Hoc as deemed necessary

Qualifications:

· AAT or equivalent

· Qualified by experience

· No-longer studying

Working Conditions:

· Office based role Monday – Friday

· 9am – 5pm with 30 minutes lunchbreak.

· Monthly close outside normal office hours are a standard requirement in this role (this activity is not eligible for overtime)
