Overview

A technical 'expert' position requiring a good knowledge and understanding of chemical dosing systems and controls; and of client and customer control system requirements and specifications as used in the water utility and process industries.

The Commissioning Engineer will lead the development of control systems capability in accordance with the strategic plan of the business and safely commission chemical dosing systems in accordance QA and commissioning plans.

Duties & responsibilities

  • Prepares dosing system Functional Design Specifications (FDS) from project specifications, P&IDs and User Requirement Specifications (URS)
  • Analyses dosing systems drawings and specifications including P&IDs, FDS, wiring diagrams and equipment specifications.
  • Specifies and assists in the preparation of QA and testing plans for system build and installation including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
  • Produces innovative designs respecting in house and client requirements including client system integration where appropriate.
  • Writes and modifies control software and user interface graphics/HMIs.
  • Estimates the cost of control systems and panels to support contract tendering and cost control for in house and third-party options.
  • Creates purchasing and/or build specifications and designs for control systems, panels and instrumentation using typical water utility/WIMES standards etc.
  • Engages and manages third-party control system manufacturers and ensures required levels of innovation, competency, quality and compliance.
  • Prepares Risk assessments and Method Statements for testing and commissioning activities in accordance with company and client requirements.
  • Conducts electrical installation tests and certifies results in accordance with legal and company requirements.
  • Conducts QA and other test plans for system build and installation including Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
  • Commissions chemical dosing systems on water at client sites and assists clients during commissioning on chemicals.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves problems arising during testing and commissioning.
  • Prepares training manuals from O&M and other technical documentation.
  • Arranges and delivers operator training.
  • Prepares and issues test and commissioning reports in accordance with contract requirements.
  • Works in accordance with project management procedures, ensuring HSEQ compliance and the application of robust design principles and sound engineering practice
