We have an ambitiousInvestment Strategy, which aims to demonstrate how by 2050 we can both grow and improve the condition of our estate of homes, ensuring all are of a standard fit for the future. We're looking for a Head of Land and New Business to join us, based from our Head office in Basingstoke, this opportunity include blend of office, home and on-site working.

The role:

The successful applicant will be responsible for leading a team to ensure the acquisition of land, package deals and S106 opportunities within the region, identifying and securing JVs and partnership developments, you will be supporting the Land and New Business Director to develop and promote future plans that feed into SNG's investment strategy.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Generating and securing new land, s106 JV and package deals with contractors/developers in line with ambitions of investment strategy.
  • Creating strong networks of contacts across national and regional developers and contractors; agencies specialising in land and development; other professional consultancies; local authorities and Homes England/GLA; and solicitors.
  • Recommending viability changes and negotiate contract terms to ensure SNG remains competitive.
  • Recommending contracts for approval in consultation with project management team having regard to standard agreed contract terms.
  • Cross-examining and reporting on scheme progress to ensure efficient timely delivery of all projects being delivered by team.
  • Ensuring developments are delivered in line with budget, programme, quality and safety working alongside the project delivery team.

What we're looking for: 

  • Relevant professional qualifications or equivalent experience.
  • Leadership behaviours aligned to SNG's values, fostering an environment of trust, transparency, inclusion, and employee wellbeing.
  • Track record of taking projects from concept to acquisition, appointing and managing consultant teams to secure new opportunities.
  • Track record of procuring multi tenure / mixed use developments.
  • Comprehensive understanding of commercial practices relevant to delivering new development.
  • Financially literate and the ability to interpret development funding models.
  • Track record of political and policy engagement and horizon scanning
  • Housing sector knowledge and insight or can demonstrate transferability from another related sector.
  • Experience of leading a mixed professional team with a breadth of skills and a track record of collective achievement.
  • Experience of working with senior executives
