Job Purpose

As Chemical Engineer you will support and enhance the manufacturing processes at our facilities. This role will involve designing, optimising, and scaling up chemical processes, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and driving continuous improvements in production efficiency and product quality.

Key Tasks

Process Design & Optimization:

  • Develop, design, and implement chemical processes to improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Evaluate and optimize existing manufacturing processes for better performance, yield, and cost-efficiency.
  • Scale up processes from laboratory or pilot scale to full-scale production.

Troubleshooting & Problem Solving:

  • Identify and resolve process-related issues, equipment malfunctions, or operational inefficiencies.
  • Investigate root causes of process deviations and implement corrective actions.
  • Work closely with operators and maintenance teams to resolve day-to-day production issues.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure all manufacturing processes adhere to safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Conduct risk assessments and safety audits to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Lead and participate in HAZOP, HAZID, LOPA and other relevant risk identification and reduction activities related to CAPEX projects.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry regulations and ensure compliance in all process designs and operations.

Data Analysis & Reporting:

  • Analyse process data to monitor performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations for management.
  • Use data-driven insights to recommend process changes or enhancements.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement:

  • Work cross-functionally with R&D, quality control, maintenance, and production teams to achieve operational goals.
  • Support the implementation of lean manufacturing techniques and other continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of new technologies and innovations for improved manufacturing processes.

Training & Support:

  • Train and mentor production & engineering staff on new processes, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Provide technical support to the team as needed to ensure smooth operations.

Knowledge, experience & skills

The job holder must:

  • Be post-graduate level (minimum) 2:1 in chemical engineering.
  • Demonstrable relevant engineering experience, within Lithium Chemical Production Processes would be desirable.
  • Excellent project management skills, timing, financials and budget control.
  • String communication skills and the ability to lead a team and to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office applications as well as CAD is a pre-requisite.
  • Experience of managing teams in an industrial environment whilst working to strict safety and quality standards
  • Self-motivated while able to motivate others.
  • Managing multiple stakeholders and competing demands
  • Understanding of Health & Safety legislation.
