Specialist Safety Risk Assessor
Homebased with travel across the South of England
Contract: 3-6 months (3-4 days per week)
Rate: Circa 450 a day, outside IR35 (DoE)

A leading rail operating company is seeking an experienced Safety Risk Assessor to support the delivery of lithium-ion battery risk assessments across their network. This is inclusive of office spaces, depots and warehouses. This short-term contract (3-6 months) offers a flexible 3-4 day work week and the opportunity to work with a major transport provider, developing a niche and high in demand skill.

Responsibilities of the Specialist Safety Risk Assessor will include:

  • Conducting risk assessments and advising on best practices related to lithium-ion battery use, storage, and management within a rail environment.
  • Identifying and mitigating fire, thermal runaway, and other safety risks associated with lithium-ion batteries.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Providing recommendations and developing risk management strategies for battery usage across trains, depots, and infrastructure.
  • Supporting training initiatives and raising awareness of lithium-ion battery hazards among staff.

The successful Specialist Safety Risk Assessor will have:

  • Proven experience managing risks associated with lithium-ion batteries, preferably in an operational or industrial setting.
  • A strong understanding of battery hazards, failure modes, and safety regulations.
  • Experience within the rail industry (preferred but not essential).
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to communicate technical risks effectively.
  • A full UK driving license and willingness to travel across the South of England.
