As a Court Usher, you'll play a key role in ensuring court proceedings run smoothly. You'll assist legal professionals, jurors, and members of the public while maintaining professionalism and court etiquette at all times. This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the Ministry of Justice and develop transferable skills in administration, communication, and problem-solving.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Welcoming and guiding court users, ensuring they know where to go.
  • Calling cases and helping maintain order in the courtroom.
  • Handling sensitive information with discretion.
  • Supporting court administration, including document handling.
  • Remaining professional and composed when dealing with a diverse range of people, including those who may be distressed or under pressure.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring parties are ready for court hearings, calling on cases in the courtroom, and ensuring customers make contact with solicitors.
  • Swearing in juries and ensuring jurors enter the courtroom.
  • Liaising with barristers and judiciary to ensure cases are ready to be heard.
  • Carrying out basic administrative duties, answering calls, and handling post duties.

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
  • A respectful and professional approach to court etiquette.
  • Good attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures accurately.
  • Previous experience in customer service or administration is beneficial, but full training will be provided.

  • Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (08:30-17:00)

  • Location: Basingstoke Law Courts, London Road, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG21 4AB
  • Start Date: ASAP (pending vetting clearance)
