Job Title: Senior Production Engineer

Location Basingstoke

39 Hours Per week Monday - Thursday/ Friday


Role Objective:

This role reports into the Head of Operations, heading up a small team with responsibility for production control, purchasing and inventory management. Having the prime objective of managing and coordinating the interface between engineering and manufacturing in a make to order capital equipment arena. Whilst working within the current confines of our manufacturing capability, bring about improvements in systems, processes, and procedures to improve efficiency, increase throughput and profitability resulting in improvement in on-time delivery performance through effective planning and supply chain management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for production planning and modelling of prospective orders, along with scheduling to optimise workflow, to ensure good utilisation of machinery and resources to bring about improvements in productivity and on time delivery.
  • Lead and participate in the day-to-day generation of technical engineering instructions for a multi-disciplinary production facility (fabrication & weld, machine shop and fitting).
  • Lead and participate in the creation and maintenance of production BoM's, routings, and manufacturing orders for existing and new products.
  • Based upon the planning and modelling, advise when the need for sub-contract support is envisaged. Our dependency upon sub-contract support is to be minimised in favour of developing our in-house capability.
  • Lead in the creation and development of routings to optimise manufacturing approaches.
  • Provide costings in support of prospective sales based on historical data or first principals.
  • Identify and implement improvements to manufacturing, and work scheduling to optimise efficiency and increase productivity.
  • Responsible for purchasing, and to assist in the creation and issuing purchase orders for raw materials, components, and sub-contract manufacture or service provisions as and when required.
  • Through your team maintain oversight and provide regular updates on procurement status and where necessary expedite material shortages with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure timely deliveries to contribute to improvements in on time delivery.
  • Responsible for management of inventory, and the annual stock take.
  • As part of a drive for continual improvement, identify and recommend opportunities for improvement.

Skills & Experience:

  • Experienced in production engineering, planning, and buying, ideally from a capital equipment make to order background.
  • Experienced and comfortable in managing people to create a high performing team.
  • Be self-starting/motivated and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Have a proven ability to identify and implement improvements.
  • Adept at managing situations to achieve cost, time, and quality targets.
  • Must be computer literate, familiar and competent in Excel and Word.
  • Experienced in working in an ERP/MRP environment is essential.
  • Experience in working in Epicor Kinetic, E10 would be highly advantageous

Educational Qualifications:

Minimum academic level required:

NVQ/SVQ Level 4 / HNC in Mechanical / Production Engineering

Ideal academic level preferred:

NVQ/SVQ Level 5 / HND / Degree in Mechanical / Production Engineering

Professional Qualifications:

CMS/DMS or other management qualification is desirable
