Job Title:          Production Engineer

Location:     Basingstoke

This role reports into the Senior Production Engineer and working as part of a team, to undertake planning and purchasing, with a focus upon the production, maintenance and development of BoM’s, routings, and manufacturing orders. Striving to ensure optimal approaches to manufacturing, and work scheduling to optimise efficiency and increase productivity in a make to order capital equipment arena.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Generation and maintenance of technical engineering instructions for a multi-disciplinary production facility (fabrication & weld, machine shop and fitting).
  • Generation and maintenance of production BoM’s, routings, and manufacturing orders for existing and new products.
  • Create routings and where required costing to facilitate make-buy decisions, consulting with engineering and manufacturing as required.
  • Produce costings in support of prospective sales based on historical costings or first principles.
  • Assist in purchasing through negotiation and placement of orders for raw materials, components, and sub-contract manufacture or service provisions as and when required.
  • Routinely expedite and provide regular updates on procurement status and where necessary expedite material shortages with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure timely deliveries to contribute to improvements in on time delivery.
  • As part of a drive for continual improvement, identify and recommend opportunities for improvement based upon experience and exposure.
  • Assist in annual stock take.

Skills & Experience: 

  • Experience in production engineering, planning, and buying, ideally from a capital equipment make to order background.
  • Can manage different processes and tasks to achieve an end goal.
  • Be self-starting/motivated and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Based upon experience and exposure possess the ability to identify and implement improvements.
  • Adept at managing situations to achieve cost, time, and quality targets.
  • Must be computer literate, familiar and competent in Excel and Word.
  • Experienced in working an ERP/MRP environment would be advantageous.
  • Experience in Epicor Kinetic or Epicor 10 ERP system would be advantageous.

Educational Qualifications:

Minimum academic level required:

NVQ/SVQ Level 3 / ONC/OND in Mechanical / Production Engineering

Ideal academic level preferred:

NVQ/SVQ Level 4 / HNC/HND in Mechanical / Production Engineering

Mobility Requirements: 

The role will be based on site at our Basingstoke premises. Occasional travel may be required within the UK in support of supplier development and our manufacturing operations.
