Virtualisation Designer - Basingstoke
We are seeking a Virtualisation Designer to join our team as part of a large programme aimed at designing and upgrading the virtualised platform that enables services for our customer. This role requires a candidate with extensive experience in implementing and troubleshooting technical issues with complex vSphere solutions. The successful candidate will take ownership of virtualisation-related work and collaborate closely with various teams to ensure system stability and growth.
Day-to-day of the role:- Implement and administer vSphere solutions, ensuring high availability and resilience.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues during the test stages of the programme.
- Update design documentation and ensure all designs are capable of passing review and governance.
- Work closely with network architects, test teams, service architects, and other relevant teams to ensure the stability and scalability of the virtualisation platform.
- Take ownership of issues raised during testing and act as the main point of contact for virtualisation-related inquiries.
- Provide input to reports for project managers, programme leads, and CTO as required.
- Extensive experience with vSphere 6.7 or preferably vSphere 7, including implementation, administration, and design.
- Experience with vRops is preferable.
- Strong knowledge of resilient network solutions supporting vSphere environments.
- Good experience with enterprise SAN solutions, particularly iSCSI.
- Familiarity with AD, DNS, DHCP, Routing, VLANs, RBAC, and port groups and their impacts on a vSphere platform.
- Linux knowledge is advantageous.
- Proven ability in analysis and troubleshooting of technical issues.
- Experienced in supporting the implementation and test phases of solutions and successful handover to service/support teams.
- Solid understanding of the project lifecycle from end-to-end.
- Experience in producing BOMs and cost models.
- Ability to work in a secure environment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to make quick decisions and take ownership.
