Red Snapper Recruitment are recruiting for Children’s Independent Domestic Abuse Advocate summary. The role focuses on empowering children and young people (aged 5-17) affected by domestic abuse to have a voice, be informed, and feel supported. The successful candidate will provide high-quality casework support, advocacy, and information services to young survivors of domestic abuse living in refuge accommodation with their non-abusive parent. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people affected by domestic abuse, advocating for their safety, well-being, and recovery while working collaboratively in a supportive and professional environment.
Location: Bath and North Somerset
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Contract: FTC until March 2025
Salary: £26,000 per annum
Main duties and responsibilities
• Implement regular 1:1 therapeutic intervention for children and young people (CYP) in schools and home • Advocate for CYP in multi-agency meetings such as Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and Team Around the Family (TAF) conferences.
• Work collaboratively with young survivors to develop and implement individualised Support Plans, ensuring their unique needs are met.
• Provide resettlement support to young survivors transitioning from refuge to independent accommodation.
• Support non-abusive parents/carers to understand the impact of domestic violence and strengthen their ability to foster recovery and improve family dynamics.
• Offer effective safety planning advice tailored to individual situations to help young survivors and families stay safe.
• Conduct and regularly update risk assessments to ensure appropriate safeguarding measures are in place in line with organizational policies.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for advice on safeguarding issues related to CYP experiencing harm.
Person Specification
• IDVA/CIDVA/YPVA qualification or willingness to complete.
• Proven experience working with children and young people affected by domestic and sexual abuse.
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed practices and the effects of domestic violence on young people.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of safeguarding frameworks for children and adults, and the ability to advise on appropriate options for young survivors.
• Full current driving license and access to own vehicle.
