Job Title: Quantity Surveyor

About the Role:
We are looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join a dynamic and growing team within a leading construction contractor based in Wakefield. Reporting into a Senior Quantity Surveyor (SQS), you will work closely with a commercial and pre-con team. You will play a key role in managing and overseeing the commercial aspects of various construction projects, spanning a variety of business divisions.
This is an exciting opportunity to work across diverse sectors, including concrete structures, glass reinforced concrete, remediation, concrete cleaning, and new builds. You will be involved in projects ranging in value from £50K to £6M, offering ample exposure to different scales of work.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Management: Assist with cost estimation, cost planning, and cost control across a wide range of construction projects.
Procurement: Support the procurement process, including preparing tender documentation, evaluating bids, and managing subcontractor agreements.
Measurement and Valuation: Prepare accurate measurements and valuations for work completed on-site, ensuring compliance with contract conditions.
Commercial Reporting: Prepare and review commercial reports, highlighting key issues and providing advice on project financial health.
Project Support: Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality.
Site Visits: Carry out site visits and inspections to assess progress, liaise with site teams, and resolve commercial issues.
Client Liaison: Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, ensuring open communication and resolving any commercial issues promptly.
Requirements:
Experience:
Ideally, 1-3 years of experience in quantity surveying within the construction industry (Assistant level).
Open to candidates with experience in various sectors, including concrete structures, new builds, or refurbishment projects. Specific experience in care homes, residential or station restorations would be beneficial.
Qualifications:
A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field is preferred.
Skills:
Strong understanding of cost estimation, procurement, and contract administration.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with QS software (e.g., CostX, Buildsoft, or similar).
Good communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
