I'm recruiting on behalf of a well-established and forward-thinking engineering firm based in Beccles, who are looking to bring an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer into their growing design team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team to create innovative mechanical design solutions for various projects.
  • Take a lead role in concept development and transform ideas into detailed 3D CAD models.
  • Apply sound mechanical engineering principles to overcome complex design challenges.
  • Produce factory and machine layouts in 2D CAD.
  • Generate accurate and detailed bills of materials and parts lists for mechanical assemblies.
  • Participate in meetings with project teams, suppliers, and clients to fully understand and deliver mechanical requirements.
  • Ensure all designs comply with current regulations, standards, and company procedures.
  • Support the Sales team with design input for quotations and project costings.
  • Provide hands-on technical support throughout build, testing, and commissioning phases.
  • Effectively manage workload to deliver designs in line with project timelines.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve design quality and processes.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Proven experience in mechanical design, ideally within the automation or special purpose machinery industry.
  • HNC/HND or higher qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field.
  • Highly proficient in 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks), with strong design-for-manufacture experience.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks PDM or similar data management tools is advantageous.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing techniques and mechanical components.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with a structured, methodical approach to design.
  • Effective time management and the ability to juggle multiple projects.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A passion for innovation and engineering excellence.
