Job Summary:The Financial Controller for a division of an AIM Listed technology business is responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations and reporting for this business. This includes financial planning, analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with all financial regulations. The role involves working closely with senior leadership to provide insights and recommendations that support business objectives, financial performance, and strategic decision-making within the business.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting and Analysis

    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for the Technology Division, ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
    • Perform detailed financial analysis, including variance analysis, profitability, and cost trends to support operational and strategic decisions.
    • Work with cross-functional teams to deliver meaningful insights into the division’s financial performance and help drive business growth.

Budgeting and Forecasting

    • Lead the annual budgeting process for the division, collaborating with department heads and senior leadership to develop accurate financial forecasts and budgets.
    • Monitor and manage budget performance, ensuring cost control measures are in place and financial targets are met.
    • Prepare periodic forecasts and update financial projections based on changing business conditions.

Internal Controls and Compliance

    • Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard the division’s financial assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
    • Oversee internal audits and ensure adherence to company policies and financial regulations.
    • Work closely with external auditors to support the annual audit process and prepare necessary financial documentation.

Cash Flow and Working Capital Management

    • Monitor and manage the division’s cash flow, ensuring that cash resources are optimally allocated to meet operational needs.
    • Work with the treasury team to forecast and manage working capital requirements effectively.
    • Ensure timely collection of receivables and management of payables to maintain liquidity.

Strategic Planning and Business Support

    • Collaborate with the senior leadership team to provide financial insights and advice to support strategic planning and decision-making.
    • Analyze new business opportunities, investments, and technology projects, providing financial modeling and risk assessments.
    • Support mergers, acquisitions, and partnerships by providing financial due diligence and integration support.

Team Management and Development

    • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
    • Provide training and support for financial systems and processes within the division.
    • Ensure the team adheres to financial reporting deadlines and maintains a high standard of financial accuracy.

Technology and Systems Optimization

    • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems and tools that improve financial reporting, efficiency, and data accuracy.
    • Stay current with industry trends, financial technologies, and best practices to drive financial operations and reporting enhancements.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA or CPA).
  • 7+ years of experience in financial management, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial regulations, and internal controls.
  • Experience in a technology business environment or a related industry is highly preferred.
  • Expertise in financial software and ERP systems.
  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to analyze and interpret complex financial data.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to communicate financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to lead and develop teams, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Staff management experience is essential.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams, including sales, operations, and product development.
  • Familiarity with international accounting standards and managing global financial operations.
  • Previous experience in a high-growth, fast-paced technology business environment is a plus.
