Maintenance Manager

Location: Bedford

Salary: Up to 65,000 per annum

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent; Monday to Friday

We are seeking an experienced Maintenance Manager to join our Bedford-based client, a leader in their field. Reporting to the Plant Manager, this is a hands-on, shop-floor-focused role with additional responsibilities for planning, reporting, and contractor management. You will oversee a shift-based engineering team, ensuring both reactive and preventative maintenance needs are met while upholding high standards in safety, quality, and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of the shift-based engineering team, including attendance, discipline, and performance reviews.
  • Deliver effective reactive maintenance and provide additional support as needed.
  • Execute and oversee the Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Collaborate with Production and Planning teams to optimise maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures across the engineering department.
  • Oversee and manage contractors on-site.
  • Maintain accurate records through IFS and other work order documentation.
  • Establish a structured approach to spares management, including the identification, warehousing, and control of critical spares.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety regulations, BRCGS standards, and customer codes of practice.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Strong understanding of Health and Safety at work, including COSHH, Risk Assessments, DSEAR, and PTW systems.
  • Proven experience in managing teams and controlling contractors.
  • Tertiary engineering qualification (C&G, HND, or equivalent).
  • Solid background in engineering management.
  • Effective leadership and team management skills.
  • Strategic thinking capability combined with hands-on problem-solving.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
