Academics Ltd is currently working with outstanding SEN schools across Kempston, providing education for children aged 5-19 with a range of mental, educational, and social needs. These schools are dedicated to ensuring that children reach their full potential through high standards of teaching and learning. As a SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health challenges through education and training.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to work alongside the class teacher and other support staff to meet the varying needs of the children as SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant in Kempston. A flexible approach is essential, as you will provide support both to the classroom as a whole and to individual students.

Responsibilities of SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with a variety of SEN, including ASD, ADHD, and learning difficulties.
  • Assist the class teacher in creating an inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment.
  • Support students' emotional and social development through positive reinforcement strategies.
  • Collaborate with teachers and parents to implement and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
  • Encourage and facilitate the development of students' confidence, independence, and key life skills.

Essential Requirements:

  • A genuine passion for supporting children with Special Educational Needs.
  • Previous experience in a similar role is advantageous, though not essential. Full training and support will be provided.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to working with children.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A commitment to promoting the individual strengths and achievements of each student.
  • A relevant qualification in supporting teaching and learning (e.g., Level 2 or 3) is desirable, but not a requirement.
  • Ability to commute to Kempston.
