Role Overview:We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Multi-Skilled Technician (Handyperson) to join our growing team in Canfiled, Bedford. In this dynamic role, you will provide facilities support services across the site, performing a range of general maintenance and business support tasks. Working alongside the operations supervisors, you will assist in the delivery of both reactive and planned maintenance activities, contributing to a safe, well-maintained working environment.
Training and upskilling will be provided to ensure you develop the necessary competencies to perform a wide variety of tasks across multiple trades.
Key Responsibilities:
- Planned Maintenance:
- Perform weekly and monthly maintenance tasks, including waste management, flushing of underused outlets, water temperature recording, and emergency lighting tests.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all assigned work orders and complete all required reports, including RAMS and associated permits.
- Reactive Maintenance:
- Respond promptly to urgent repair requests across the site, including minor building fabric repairs and modifications, basic plumbing, and carpentry work.
- Provide first-line response to reactive maintenance tasks and resolve issues efficiently.
- General Maintenance:
- Conduct decorating tasks and assist with general janitorial and office cleaning duties when required.
- Provide support for external landscaping and cleaning as necessary.
- Carry out ad hoc porterage duties, including furniture management and moves.
- Stock Management and Housekeeping:
- Monitor and manage stock levels, ensuring appropriate materials and tools are available for ongoing tasks.
- Maintain cleanliness and order in plant rooms and workshops, ensuring equipment is stored safely and accessibly.
- Health & Safety Compliance:
- Ensure all work complies with company Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures.
- Complete risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) for tasks, adhering to all safety guidelines.
- Regularly monitor the site for potential health, safety, or maintenance issues and report concerns to the helpdesk or the relevant supervisor.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and report any safety hazards or equipment deficiencies promptly.
- Customer Service:
- Provide excellent customer service to building occupants, keeping them informed about the status of work orders.
- Proactively walk the floors, identifying and reporting maintenance or H&S issues to the appropriate manager.
What We Are Looking For:
- Experience & Skills:
- Proven experience in building maintenance, handyperson, or janitorial duties.
- Basic skills in plumbing, carpentry, and general building fabric repairs.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations in a building environment.
- Ability to select the appropriate materials and tools for various maintenance tasks.
- Confidence in performing tasks independently and taking ownership of maintenance issues.
- Personal Attributes:
- Physically fit and able to perform manual handling and work at heights.
- Flexible approach to working hours, with a willingness to cover for holidays and sickness absences.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- A proactive, driven attitude with a commitment to achieving high standards.
- Additional Requirements:
- A full UK driver’s license.
- Ability to accurately document work activities and update computer-based systems.
- Knowledge of statutory building compliance and a commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant working environment.
- Willingness to undertake further training to develop skills and competencies across a range of trades.

- Maintain a clean and professional appearance, adhering to company dress code and using provided uniform and PPE.
- Demonstrate personal responsibility for Health & Safety in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) and other relevant regulations.
