Key Responsibilities of a PMLD Teaching Assistant:
- Provide personalized one-to-one and small group support for students with PMLD.
- Collaborate with teachers and other professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs).
- Assist students with physical needs, including personal care, mobility, and feeding, ensuring dignity and safety at all times.
- Create a positive, supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and growth.
- Work closely with the SEN team to track progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed.
- Utilize specialist equipment and resources to facilitate engaging and accessible learning activities.
- Collaborate with parents, carers, and external professionals to support holistic student development.
Requirements of a PMLD Teaching Assistant:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with PMLD in an educational setting.
- A compassionate, patient, and empathetic approach to working with students with complex needs.
- Familiarity with Makaton, PECS, or other communication methods (highly desirable).
- Knowledge of the SEN Code of Practice and safeguarding policies.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning, SEN diploma, or equivalent).
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
