I am recruiting for a Principal Lawyer specialising in Special Educational Needs and education matters. This role is crucial in leading a team of lawyers to provide professional and innovative legal services to a variety of public sector clients.
Day-to-day of the role:- Provide legal advice and services in litigation matters, predominantly around Special Educational Needs and education, ensuring compliance with statutory duties and obligations to protect the best interests of client organisations.
- Act as a legal advisor to client organisations, ensuring compliance and protection of their interests.
- Develop and provide legal input into training courses for professional clients.
- Manage the team’s complex and politically sensitive caseload to ensure high-quality, well-researched, and comprehensive legal advice within required timescales.
- Identify and manage risks associated with relevant areas of legal practice.
- Supervise and manage the work of the team, ensuring professional guidance is given, expertise is employed, and work is allocated appropriately.
- Manage team activities including performance, caseloads, productivity, motivation, development, recruitment, selection, and appraisals.
- Attend courts and tribunals for advocacy and represent clients in negotiations and discussions with third parties.
- Support the management team in building and maintaining effective working relationships with clients to deliver a seamless and client-focused service.
- Comply with all Legal Services practice management requirements including time recording, Lexcel, and Investors in People.
- Develop and maintain effective partnerships, networks, and joint working arrangements to meet the needs and aspirations of clients.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and maintain good employment relations within the team.
- Qualified lawyer with extensive experience in Special Educational Needs and education law.
- Proven ability to lead and manage a team of legal professionals.
- Strong advocacy skills and experience in courts and tribunals.
- Excellent organisational and management skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships and networks.
