We are seeking a seasoned Engineering Manager to join an international engineering business in the field of rotating equipment.

The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team, providing essential technical support that will ensure delivery of high-quality aftermarket solutions for rotating equipment (Pumps/ Turbines) and associated equipment used in a range of sectors including EFW, Defence, Power Generation, Pulp and Sugar.

In this role, your expertise in coaching, developing, and mentoring engineering team members will foster an environment of continuous learning and adherence to best engineering standards and practices. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with technical engineering leaders across the client and the wider client Group, to align strategies and achieve collective success.

Interested candidates will ideally be degree qualified in a relevant technical discipline however those with a lesser qualification with demonstrable industry experience will be considered.

Candidates must also be able to obtain SC Clearance as part of this role.

Hours – Mon – Thurs 8AM – 4.30PM / Friday 8AM – 1PM

Hybrid working is available (1 – 2 days at home per week)

Objectives & Measurement

Key Responsibilities and Specific Accountabilities:

Objectives:

  • Lead the Engineering team in providing the necessary technical support on Aftermarket solutions for rotating equipment (Pumps/ Turbines) and its associated equipment.
  • Coach, develop and mentor engineering team members, fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Drive continual improvement in the level of engineering support provided throughout the value stream.
  • Supervision and planning of Engineering team workload, including their mobilisation to customer site to lead commissioning activities.
  • Integration and coordination of Sub-contract support
  • Participate in the creation of Risk Assessments and Method Statements
  • Maintain a facility of record keeping that allows for future reference, further development and shared lessons across the customer base and general solution provision.
  • Work across the business to drive cost effective solutions and margin improvement e.g. working with our supply chain to identify options that will provide the right cost for the right technical solution.
  • Proactively promote a positive Health & Safety culture and ensure adherence to Company policies (including HR/EHS/Security).
  • Able to lead large projects on a technical basis, supporting the delivery of project requirements on time and to the required quality.
  • Participate in activities such as 5S, CES, Root Cause Problem Solving and Standard Work.
  • Production of drawings using 3D CAD package (Solidworks).

Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications

Education/ Qualifications :

Mechanical / controls-based qualification to degree level, or equivalent work-based experience. Previous experience to include familiarity with rotating equipment (Pumps/ Turbines) service work, particularly installation & commissioning and fault finding and /or similar exposure within a service workshop environment.

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • Experience of Managing, Mentoring and Leading people in the work environment, with the ability to inspire and motivate colleagues towards achieving team goals.
  • Advanced level of knowledge of rotating equipment and its associated equipment, operates.
  • Good knowledge of engineering fundamentals involved in the design, operation, and maintenance of rotating equipment (Pumps/ Turbines).
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Detail orientated, but with the efficiency to achieve timely results.
  • An innovative thinker who can identify opportunities for improving efficiency and effectiveness and offer alternatives to what is the considered norm.
  • Knowledge of international standards and specifications relating to turbomachinery and its associated equipment.

It would be beneficial if you also have the following attributes and / or experience:

  • Ability to make technical presentations.
  • Work using lean and continuous improvement methodologies and associated operational excellence and growth tools and processes.
  • Using 3D CAD packages (preferably SolidWorks)
  • Commissioning of turbomachinery equipment
  • Working at Customer site(s)
  • Knowledge of HSE frameworks to at least IOSH level
  • Ability to conduct POWRA, appropriate to task(s)
