My client is a well-established, privately owned specialist Civil Engineering Contractor & Plant Hire business that has undergone a successful growth period and become a leading player in the market. To continue this growth, they are looking to appoint a Plant Manager to oversee the operations of their recently constructed plant yard and the reactive and planned maintenance of their modern fleet including Hitachi, Kubota, JCB, Doosan and Thwaites machinery.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Equipment Management

  • Procurement and Inventory:Oversee the procurement of new equipment and manage the inventory of existing machinery to ensure availability for projects.
  • Maintenance Scheduling:Develop and implement maintenance schedules to minimise downtime and extend the lifespan of equipment.
  • Repairs Coordination:Coordinate repairs and troubleshoot issues with machinery, liaising with technicians and external service providers as necessary.

2. Compliance and Safety

  • Regulatory Compliance:Ensure all equipment complies with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including conducting regular inspections.
  • Safety Protocols:Develop and enforce safety protocols for the operation of plant machinery to prevent accidents and injuries.

3. Budget Management

  • Cost Control:Manage the plant budget, ensuring cost-effective operations without compromising on quality or safety.
  • Financial Reporting:Prepare financial reports related to plant operations, including cost analysis and budget forecasts.

4. Team Leadership

  • Staff Management:Recruit, train, and supervise plant staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties safely and efficiently.
  • Performance Monitoring:Monitor staff performance, providing feedback and implementing improvements where necessary.

5. Operational Efficiency

  • Process Improvement:Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Resource Allocation:Allocate resources effectively to meet project demands while maintaining operational efficiency.

6. Strategic Planning

  • Long-term Planning:Develop long-term strategies for plant management that align with the companys goals and objectives.
  • Project Support:Collaborate with project managers to ensure that plant resources are aligned with project timelines and requirements.

7. Communication and Coordination

  • Stakeholder Liaison:Act as a liaison between the plant department and other departments within the company, ensuring clear communication and coordination.
  • Vendor Relationships:Maintain strong relationships with equipment suppliers and service providers to ensure timely delivery of services and parts.

8. Other

  • Management of Plant Fitters diaries
  • Maintain Asset Register
  • Ensure Site Audit regime is maintained
  • Monthly invoicing
  • Overseeing insurance claims, speeding and parking fines
  • Maintaining Cat & Genny Calibration Records and Loler Certification inspection regime

Desirable Competence & Training:

  • Appreciation of NHBC, LABC & equivalent standards
  • Relevant sector experience in a similar role
  • Good time management skills
  • Good interpersonal skills at all levels of an organisation
  • Collaborative approach to working
  • IT literate and a comprehensive understanding of Microsoft based programmes to include Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook
