Our client, a leading manufacturing company based in Bedford, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Production Manager to join their dynamic team. With a commitment to innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction, this company is at the forefront of its industry, providing exceptional products and services to a diverse client base.

Role and Responsibilities:

As the Production Manager, you will manage the production process, linking between both the projects and installation teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the correct quality standards. This multi-disciplined role involves:

  • Directly managing the shop floor team, including all Health and Safety requirements, through the existing supervisor and team leader structure.
  • Planning the workload for the shop floor to ensure efficient time and process management, and reporting deviations from estimated times.
  • Being responsible for weekly output levels and advising the management team and customers of any delivery performance issues.
  • Ensuring the quality of the products delivered to customers by implementing and maintaining relevant procedures.
  • Coordinating with the installation manager to ensure proper project handover and timely delivery of products to meet installation team requirements.
  • Liaising with supply-only customers to meet timescales.
  • Ensuring all plant machinery is functioning, planning for plant maintenance and upgrades, and focusing on mechanisation, particularly in lifting and handling.
  • Overseeing the purchasing function and supporting the Production and Procurement Coordinator in obtaining the best value.
  • Conducting regular (minimum twice weekly) production meetings with the projects, sales, and installation teams.

Requirements:

  • Excellent communication and people skills to manage approx.. 35 shop floor staff.
  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 company is desirable.
  • Experience with FSC regulations is a bonus.
  • Collaborative working style, with the ability to work as a team to solve problems.
  • Coaching leadership style to harness the best in the shop floor team, building trust and respect.
  • Ability to give and receive constructive and respectful feedback.
  • Willingness to learn and demonstrate humility.
  • Experience in recruiting both agency staff and full-time employees.
  • Background in woodwork/building trade is advantageous but not essential.
  • Strong attention to detail and experience in planning.
  • IT literate, with the ability to understand and manipulate data (e.g., Excel pivot tables).
  • Ability to work alongside the current production manager until the end of December.
