About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team in Bedford. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting students with social, emotional, and mental health needs in a Pupil Referral Unit setting. Your primary responsibility will be to assist with the delivery of tailored interventions and provide day-to-day support to students, fostering their emotional and academic growth as a School Mental Health Teaching Assistant.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual and small group support to students with SEMH needs, focusing on mental health and emotional well-being.
  • Assist with implementing personalised learning plans and behavioural strategies.
  • Support students in managing their emotions, building resilience, and developing coping mechanisms.
  • Work closely with teachers and SENCOs to ensure effective communication and holistic support.
  • Support the implementation of therapeutic interventions as required, working alongside external agencies such as CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services).
  • Foster strong relationships with students to promote engagement and emotional development.

About You:

  • Previous experience working in SEMH settings or Pupil Referral Units is essential.
  • A keen interest to become a School Mental Health Teaching Assistant.
  • A strong understanding of mental health issues, including the impact on learning and behaviour.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and external professionals.
