Job DescriptionPosition: Engine Test SupervisorReporting to: Operational Lead - IC EnginesShift Pattern: Days (Mon-Fri)

This is a unique opportunity to take on the role of Supervisor within a state-of-the-art testing environment focused on IC Engine Testing at a Bedfordshire site. The Engine Test Centre conducts diverse testing programs ranging from durability, fuels, and additive testing to research on prototype hardware. Projects cover a spectrum from fuel-efficient passenger car engines to high-performance units.

In this role, you will act as a central figure, bridging the Engineering team and the operational workforce. The position requires a passionate and driven individual to oversee technician labour distribution, performance management, and health and safety compliance while fostering a positive and innovative working environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of the Engine Test Centre.

  • Supervise the preparation and installation of test samples into engine test cells.

  • Motivate and mentor team members to meet and exceed departmental goals.

  • Promote a positive and proactive working environment.

  • Coordinate and allocate resources, including manpower, materials, and equipment.

  • Approve working hours (timesheets) and holiday requests.

  • Liaise with supporting departments, engineers, and customers on a technical level.

  • Implement and improve initiatives to reduce waste and optimize efficiency.

  • Lead and coordinate operational projects to address complex testing requirements.

  • Set an example for team members through professional and collaborative behaviour.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proven experience in a supervisory role.

  • Background in automotive and/or testing.

  • Formal automotive qualification or apprenticeship (desirable).

  • Experience with Health and Safety management, including risk assessments, LOLER and PUWER regulations, and working at height.

Skills

  • Solid understanding of gasoline and diesel engine fundamentals.

  • Knowledge of engine support systems.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
