We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEMH Learning Support Assistant to join our supportive team in Houghton Regis. This role is ideal for someone with a genuine passion for helping students with Challenging Behaviours and PMLD reach their full potential. You will provide vital support in an inclusive and nurturing environment, empowering students to thrive both academically and personally.

Key SEMH Learning Support Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with PMLD, helping them engage in learning activities.
  • Collaborate with teachers and professionals to create and implement individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Assist with physical needs, including mobility, feeding, and personal care, ensuring dignity and safety at all times.
  • Foster a positive and encouraging learning environment that promotes student well-being.
  • Work closely with the SEN team to monitor student progress and adapt teaching strategies as needed.
  • Use specialist resources and equipment to support student learning.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and external professionals to ensure a holistic approach to each child's development.

SEMH Learning Support Assistant Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with PMLD in an educational setting.
  • A caring, empathetic, and patient approach to working with students with complex needs.
  • Knowledge of communication methods such as Makaton or PECS is highly desirable.
  • A strong understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and safeguarding protocols.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning, SEN diploma, or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to commute to Houghton Regis or surrounding areas.
