Principal Design Engineer who has a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with experience working on a range of civil engineering projects including, tunnels, shafts, or civil infrastructure is required for a well-established company based in Bedworth, Coventry, West Midlands.

As a successful candidate you will be undertaking and managing conceptual and detailed designs for both temporary and permanent works on a variety of tunnelling and below ground civil engineering projects and supporting junior staff through the design process.

You will also be involved in developing technical skills within the design team, managing resources and advancing inhouse design processes.

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Principal Design Engineer who has a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with experience working on a range of civil engineering projects including, tunnels, shafts, or civil infrastructure.

The company is developing their inhouse design capability and are looking to expand their small design team where you will join as the Principal Design Engineerand will have the opportunity to influence the development of the team and the design process.

As the Principal Design Engineeryou will have design and design management experience in temporary and permanent works gained on civil engineering projects and will be looking to join the company to further develop your knowledge and skills in the design of tunnels and underground works.

The role will offer you opportunities for skills and career development in the below ground environment whilst supported by senior members of the team.

DUTIES

Your duties as the Principal Design Engineer include:

  • Assisting in the development of conceptual designs
  • Preparation of calculations, written reports and drawings
  • Checking design calculations, reports and drawings undertaken by staff and subconsultants
  • Approval of design submissions in accordance with quality procedures
  • Supporting development of the inhouse design team
  • Implementation of quality procedures
  • Management of engineers and technicians
  • Co-ordination and management of work undertaken by external design consultants
  • Ensuring designs are undertaken in compliance with CDM Regulations, Standards and Codes of Practice
  • Providing technical advice and mentoring junior engineers
  • Attend client meetings
  • Site visits as required

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • You will hold a Master's degree in civil or structural engineering
  • You will preferably be chartered or close to achieving chartered engineer status (CEng, MICE, MIStructE)
  • You must have in-depth post graduate experience working in a design environment in the UK on a range of civil engineering projects including, tunnels, shafts, or civil infrastructure
  • You must be keen to further develop your skills in below ground civil engineering design
  • You will be familiar with Eurocodes and have a sound understanding of CDM Regulations, specifically the designer’s requirements and requirements regarding the design risk assessment process
  • You will have excellent communication skills in IT, verbal and written forms
  • You will have experience in the use of structural design software and AutoCAD
  • You will hold a full UK driving licence
