Reed Finance has been appointed to recruit a Company Accountant to join our commercial client’s team.  This role is crucial for maintaining the financial health and growth of the business and is available due to the retirement of a long-serving staff member. The successful candidate will partner with the General Manager to ensure financial accuracy and efficiency across the company.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Liaise with the General Manager to produce monthly management accounts, financial and cash flow forecasts.
  • Maintain the General Ledger and the Fixed Asset Register.
  • Play a key role in year-end financial audits.
  • Assist the General Manager with ‘job costing’ on opportunities to ensure desired margins are achievable.
  • Manage the accounts payable and receivable functions.
  • Handle payroll processing and reconcile payroll taxes.
  • Conduct bank, debtors, and creditors reconciliations to ensure accurate month and year-end closings.
  • Prepare journal entries and accruals.
  • Manage HMRC returns related to VAT and Payroll and liaise with auditors on CT returns.
  • Provide client payment terms on jobs, in conjunction with the General Manager.
  • Manage monthly and yearly stock counts.
  • Liaise with the company’s insurance broker regarding fleet and commercial cover.
  • Monitor tender opportunities and assist with tender applications.
  • Manage the company purchase order system, including the issuing and processing of POs with signoff from the General Manager.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Qualified accountant with a minimum of 3 years of work experience in a similar role.
  • Competent IT skills, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Experience with SAGE Accounting and Payroll software is an advantage.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self-motivated and flexible with working hours to complete tasks and capable of working to deadlines.
