Principal Structural Engineer Summary

A world leading consultancy is currently recruiting for a Principal Structural Engineer to join our Belfast office. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced structural engineer with a proven track record in project delivery and assessment of existing structures. The Belfast Structures team focuses on projects not only in Belfast but also across the world. Our areas of expertise include healthcare, data centres, commercial, hospitality, education, and civic sectors, for both public and private clients. This role will allow you to become involved in future construction projects across Belfast and worldwide locations.

What You’ll Do:

  • Effectively control the commercial, managerial, and technical aspects of projects or parts for which you are responsible.
  • Source opportunities and prepare fee proposals for submission to clients, including resources and programme.
  • Lead a team of engineers and technicians designing building infrastructure schemes.
  • Undertake structural engineering projects, performing analyses and calculations as appropriate.
  • Supervise work to ensure it is carried out to the appropriate technical standard and managed to programme and budget.
  • Deliver design solutions and assessment calculations, lead teams, and successfully manage projects.
  • Communicate effectively with the team, senior management, clients, and external bodies.
Skills:
  1. Excellent knowledge of standard engineering practices, techniques, procedures, and structural principles.
  2. Proven experience in project delivery and assessment of existing structures.
  3. Proficiency in design and analysis of reinforced concrete and structural steelwork.
  4. Extensive working knowledge of current Eurocodes, specifically Eurocode 2 & Eurocode 3.
  5. Experience with Structural Analysis Software like SCIA, TEKLA or similar.
  6. Ability to prepare fee proposals and manage resources.
  7. Strong leadership skills to guide a team of engineers and technicians.
  8. Effective communication skills with clients, team members, and senior management.
  9. Experience in managing commercial, managerial, and technical aspects of projects.
  10. Ability to deliver design solutions, perform analyses, and supervise work to meet technical standards and project requirements.

  • TEKLA
  • Structural Analysis Software
Certifications & Standards:
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng).
  • Member of either the Institution of Structural Engineers (MIStructE) and/or the Institution of Civil Engineers (MICE).
