Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Location: BT2 8BP
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 3+ months
Working Hours: Mon - Fri, 37 hours per week

We are seeking a dynamic and creative Communications and Public Relations Officer to join a Local Authority based in Belfast. In this role, you will be responsible for producing high-quality written content and supporting the council's communications and community engagement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver high-quality written materials, press releases, and briefings across various communication platforms.
  • Support and coordinate communication and community engagement activities, such as news conferences, photo calls, and project launches.
  • Collaborate with the Office of the Chief Executive and marketing staff to contribute to the Marketing and Communications Strategy.
  • Drive proactive public relations campaigns, showcasing Belfast's successes and identifying new opportunities.
  • Plan, manage, execute, and evaluate media activities to maximise impact.

Essential Criteria:

  • Possess a third-level qualification in communications, journalism, public relations, or an equivalent field, or full membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Experience developing and implementing communication plans and public relations campaigns.
  • Proven ability to respond to media and social media enquiries in a time-sensitive manner.
  • Demonstrated experience providing media advice to senior management and board members.
  • High-level literacy skills for drafting press releases, reports, and council statements, along with strong oral communication abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of marketing, social media, and media relations best practices, including experience with social media monitoring platforms.
  • Ability to analyse complex situations, make informed decisions, and understand the wider corporate implications.
  • Skill in maintaining positive public relations and handling sensitive issues professionally while liaising with media, public bodies, and elected officials.
