Systems Engineer - Medical Devices

Location: Near Glasgow (Hybrid)

Are you an experienced Embedded Firmware Engineer with a passion for Medical Technology? My client, a leading innovator in ultrasound technology, is looking for a talented engineer to join their Hardware & Software R&D team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work on cutting-edge beamforming algorithms, shaping the future of ultrasound imaging.

The Role

As anEngineer in the R&D team, you will play a key role in developing new ultrasound systems, enhancing existing products, and driving innovation. You’ll be involved in the full development lifecycle, from research and feasibility studies to design, implementation, and testing.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop functional specifications and feasibility studies
  • Design, develop, and test embedded firmware, including DSP & ultrasound beamforming
  • Conduct proof-of-concept work and propose innovative technical solutions
  • Support and improve existing products through investigation and problem-solving
  • Collaborate with electronics, software, and mechanical teams to deliver high-quality solutions
  • Work with subcontractors and technology partners
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics or a related field
  • At least 3 years’ experience in embedded firmware development
  • Proficiency in VHDL for FPGA programming (embedded C is a bonus)
  • Strong hardware development knowledge (highly desirable)
  • Experience with Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for ultrasound (desirable)
  • Excellent problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Fluent English - ability to lead technical meetings and design reviews
