Our local authority client based in Essex are urgently seeking an experienced Housing Triage Officer.

*£25.05 an hour Umbrella*

Job purpose

  1. To provide a frontline customer focus triage service for people seeking housing advice
  2. To identify potentially homeless applicants and assist with preventing their homelessness wherever possible.
  3. To provide a counter service for callers to reception to verify and photocopy documents for the team and deal with day-to-day queries at first point of contact.
  4. To provide full administrative support to the Housing Options Team, and to back up peers in their administrative duties when required.
  5. To process housing register applications in line with the Allocations Policy and relevant legislation

Key service accountabilities:

  1. Deal with all correspondence, electronic, telephone or face to face enquiries concerning housing applications, homelessness prevention and homelessness in line with service standards.
  2. To ensure the timely processing of enquiries and maintain accurate records relating to all aspects of applications and tenancy support, including maintaining files and records for dealing with enquiries from the public, statutory and voluntary organisations, Members, MP’s and other groups as required.
  3. To carry out housing assessments of applicants to determine the most appropriate solution for each case for eligibility to join the Housing Register, assessing medical and welfare circumstances and awarding appropriate band of priority in accordance with legislation and the Council’s Allocation Policy.
  4. To provide applicants with expert, robust and holistic advice including alternative housing options such as shared ownership, mutual exchange, and accommodation in the private rented sector.
  5. To facilitate mutual exchange applications
