Job Description: SEN Primary Teacher

Location: Berkeley, Gloucestershire

Pay rate: (Apply online only) per day, dependant upon experience

Hours: Mon-Fri - Term time only, long term contract available until July 2025 initially

Spencer Clarke Group are working closely with a bespoke school for 11-16 year olds with SEMH needs in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, who have taken the best elements of a mainstream school and the best elements of a special school to create an environment where young people can achieve their own goals and thrive in a future of their own choosing. They aim to prepare students for life beyond school, so further education and employability is truly at the heart of the school's culture and ethos.

The main purpose of the role:

To deliver a high quality Key Stage 2 curriculum to Year 9-aged pupils, in classes no bigger than 6 students. Although pupils are aged at KS3, the class require a primary-based learning model due to them being lower ability, and predominantly working at a Key Stage 2 level. Therefore a primary qualified teacher with SEN experience would be ideally suited for this role, although secondary teachers with SEN setting experience are welcome to apply too.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To be responsible for the day to day running of the class and assist in other relevant aspects of the day to day running of the school.
  • To assess, record and report pupils' progress according the school's policy in order to monitor and foster pupils' progress in all areas of learning.
  • To take responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of pupils according to the school's policies, including safeguarding and PREVENT.
  • To lead support and supervision sessions for Assistant Teachers and Higher Level Teaching Assistants including Professional Development Reviews.
  • To attend and contribute to teachers' meetings, multi-disciplinary meetings and any other relevant staff meetings.
  • To ensure a high standard of personal care for the pupils, carefully monitoring the health and well-being of pupils informing the care staff, medical staff, behaviour support team and any other relevant professionals of any concerns.

Successful candidate qualities, qualifications and experience:

  • PGCE, QTS, Cert Ed or equivalent teaching qualification and evidence of in-service training.
  • At least 2 years Teaching Experience with completion of ECT
  • Working knowledge of students with complex needs and SEND.
  • Evidence of sound knowledge of the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum curriculum.
  • Knowledge, understanding and experience of autism and associated co-morbid conditions and how these can affect learning.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
